Book One (2019) Title:.

Seeds of Radical Education at the Coady Institute: An anthology of personal essays.

Chapter 18: From Participant to Teaching Associate: My Experiential Learning Journey – By Sam Madesi

I believe we wrote this book at a time when all the authors wanted to document our long journey as educators/facilitators at the Coady International Institute, St. Francis Xavier University. Whereas my teaching at the Coady Institute had spanned to 15 years, some of my senior co-authors in this book had been at the Coady for over 30 years and had just retired. The need to share with the world our amazing journey of experiences as educators could not wait. The title of our book ‘Seeds of Radical Education‘ is a true mirrored reflection of who all the 14 authors are. Considering that the Coady Institute admits over 100 participants from over 60 countries every year for different courses, we had planted so many seeds around the world for decades and shared so many experiences with our participants so much so that writing a book that captures samples of all those stories was just the right thing to do. I feel profoundly honored and exceedingly humbled to have had the opportunity to work with my co-authors at the Coady Institute and later-on write this very inspiring book with them.

Seeds of Radical Education at the Coady Institute:
An anthology of personal essays

This book is part history, part discussion on transformative, emancipatory adult education, part stories of change. It captures the life, approaches and impact of this global gem hidden in small town Canada – the Coady International Institute. It is written by former staff and associates of the Institute who each have decades of experience and connections to the Institute’s work. The book is a love story to the small, social change, educational institute based in rural Nova Scotia. It is a must read for all activists and educators committed to learning for social change.
